Apr 29th 2012!⃝I always thought it meant that some people put on a mask of cheerfulness when they're down that is a bit too exuberant to be believed. Everyone can see it's overcompensation, and it becomes annoying because it's not honest. It is also unnecessary.
Nobody wants to be around a perpetual sad sack, but the overly cheerful optimist can be just as much of a downer. While we appreciate attempts to remain positive and not bring everyone down, it's better to tone it down a notch, find some middle ground, and be real. We'll love you and support you regardless.
