In the time of the Roman empire (a subject in which I am not well versed) Cleopatra and Mark Antony had a child together before Mark left Cleo and their newborn daughter, Selene. The songwriter hasn't abandoned his daughter, but the song may symbolize remorse for leaving someone, possibly a lover or friend.
