This is meant just as stated. She tells the story in a third party's view, which is actually also talking about herself, just like in her single, Lucky.

Remember how she shaved her head and went "crazy"? Yeah. That's how she fell. No thanks to the people who mind-controlled her.

Mona Lisa actually refers to Britney. The 'spell' refers to the mind control that she had; that she didn't know about until she wrote this song.

The Britney you had seen in - most probably - ...Baby One More Time, Oops!...I Did It Again, Britney and In the Zone was not the real Britney - she had been cloned. I know lots of lyrics on other sites say "She's been gone", but when you listen closely, that's not the actual lyrics to it.

Britney was captured and was tortured during the mind control and when she finally got away, she was blinded and lost her way back on track onto the path she originally wanted because she was so upset.

This was actually the peak of her career when the whole world knew who she was when she broke the mind control. The 'they' refers to her employers and mind controllers that they want her to struggle and make people think that she'd gone crazy and hope that her fans would not like her anymore. They want to sit back and enjoy the show. When the show is over they plan to (this sounds cruel) to kill her.

Britney has got to go away again in order to give what her mind controllers want or don't want (I'm not so sure about this part, sorry). She assures her fans that the original Britney will forever be still in that body of hers. The reason why she wants a moment of silence is because she wants to have a prayer to God before she goes.
