Who’ll Stop the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival was an anti-Vietnam war song that doubted the governments ability to defend the country or accomplish anything. It seems to say trying to get them to act would be as effective as asking them to stop the rain. It appears to allude to the sense that man’s problems have to be dealt with by those who want to fix them not by government who want money. There is also a line during the song's second verse about "five-year plans and new deals wrapped in golden chains" that may indicate a general cynicism altogether about politicians. John Fogerty said “Certainly, I was talking about Washington when I wrote the song, but I remember bringing the master version of the song home and playing it. My son Josh was four years old at the time, and after he heard it, he said, 'Daddy stop the rain.' And my wife and I looked at each other and said, 'Well, not quite." He also says he got his inspiration from Woodstock when it started raining and everyone there took off their clothes.
