Dec 16th 2014!⃝Here's what I think. The singer has a girlfriend who works in London for a newspaper. He is driving in a cab through London traffic, trying to pick her up after work to go to an event. ("If you were in my shoes, you'd be running a few red lights, mate.") But her paper ran a story that had errors in it, and it's her job to stay and re-write it. ("All the papers lied today...news is falling on you.") So the guy is in a race to pick her up, and her bosses say, "no you can't go" and they get in the way. He's frustrated, love is so close, but so far ("Love? You can't give it away"). But the girlfriend has a beautiful soul, the ghost in her,
and although this particular night might be a bust, over time she will stand by him and their love will survive.
