Feb 9th 2015!⃝This song was written in honor of Robert Plant's dog. "Aint no companion like a blue eyed merle" Sounds like girl if your mind is set to thinking its about a woman but a merle is the breed of the dog Plant owned. Whenever he sang this song live he would always end it by calling out his dog's name "Strider" (obviously named after LOTR character ;))
